The light fades to silver as you walk, and now when you look up to the thinning canopy you can see the bright face of a full moon overhead.
The ground begins to grow spongy beneath your feet.

The darkness creeps in.

</div><</nobr>><<if setup.Curse>>The ground only gets softer, mud sucking at your boots as you trudge onward, eventually stepping fully into murky water. It stinks of sulfur and rot, trees lying dead and half-submerged in the water.
Atop one such tree is the familiar, hunched and avian figure of your dream companion. Its eyes glow amber as it studies you - ever curious. It gestures to the water before you with a clawed hand. "Look," it says in a ragged croak.
You do as it bids. As the mud you'd stirred clears, you see fish.
"Closer."
The water churns and as you lean forward to watch as the fishes' scales begin to flake and their bodies rot, a skeletal hand bursts from the water to clutch your wrist.
Your guide squawks, almost indignant, and is gone. With it is your ability to fight against this hand - all control usually found in this dream long gone. You cannot move. You cannot scream. You are pulled into the bog and wake in a cold sweat.<</if>><<if setup.Comfort>>The trees have thinned enough that you can more easily keep your steps from the worst of the encroaching muck. You pick your way across the path, favoring growths of moss and rockier ground to keep your footing steady and mostly dry.
Eventually the trees open up before you to reveal a wetland. It's eerie, but washed silver by the moon it's beautiful. Atop a fallen tree, your guide sits and stares out over the marsh - hundreds of crows in the trees behind it. "Not yet," it croaks, "not now. But soon."
The crows take to the air and when the guide turns its attention to you, you wake in your own bed, feeling rested.<</if>>

The path never branches but it twists in ways that you swear should have looped back to itself by now. It carries on this way endlessly and despite this being a dream you feel exhaustion and dread creeping in. There is no end, but you cannot bring yourself to stop. You have to push on. You have to know.
Eventually, your body finally gives in to its exhaustion and you collapse. You hear a rustle of feathers and a crow lands on the ground beside you as your vision greys and you let your eyes close. When you wake in your bed, you only feel all the more exhausted.<</if>><<if setup.Comfort>>Despite the darkness pressing in, you march onward. You hear a small chorus of squawks from the branches around you. You may not be able to see them, but you know they are there. They have been there for as long as you can remember.
Although their sometimes strange omens or make you feel as though you are being watched, just as often they are a comfort. Any constant in the chaos of your life is a welcome one. And now here, in the dark, the occasional caw makes you feel less alone here. <</if>>
